I started working on a new responsive skin for Roundcube. Any help
appreciated. Especially we lack graphics and design experts, but there
will be also a lot of copy/paste/cleanup and other simple tasks.

There's a separate repository so you can send pull requests and discuss
issues/features there.

While this is great news, I'm very interested to hear what happened to
Roundcube Next, which was supposed to be the responsive skin for
Roundcube. There was a crowdfunding at
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/roundcube-next--2 and I backed it.
It was funded and over 100,000 USD was raised. The last project
update at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/roundcube-next--2#/updates
was already 8 months ago which still promised to deliver.
I understand that you might or might not be involved, and that having
this crowdfunding campaign might have actually delayed the realization
of a mobile skin.

So you starting a responsive skin, is this a separate effort from a
Roundcube Next, which might not materialize?
I'm glad you started your new effort of course, but I'm a bit
disappointed in Roundcube Next. I did not even get the stickers for my
laptop :D

I'm not involved in rc-next and I'm going to work on this skin in my
free-time. So, this will not interfere (or slow down) rc-next in any
way. Note that we're talking about a new skin only. rc-next was supposed
to be a complete rewrite of everything. I know Kolab Systems (who was
the crowdfunding campain "owner") has some problems, but I also know
that the project didn't die and there's a plan to get back to it with
even more human-resources, hopefully soon. I'm sure that the new skin
effort if successful can also help rc-next.

Thanks! I was not really sure who the 'we' was you spoke about. I'm
absolutely sure a responsive skin would be very helpful for Roundcube,
and it might be also helpful for RC Next.

Great initiative, I hope you can find some nice people to work with
you and that you'll be able to make good progress!

Hi Georg,
I assume you saw the message that Thomas posted to the backers on the forums
in October last year? End of year and beginning of new year are always
exceptionally busy times, but past FOSDEM we'll be able to look at
this with fresh eyes to put a new team on this.
No, I did not see this, i only saw his update on the Indiegogo page here:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/roundcube-next--2#/updates

which is marked as '8 months ago' which would be May 2016. So do you
have a link for this other message from October?
It will happen, and if you really can't wait for your stickers in the
meantime, we'd be happy to provide them - we just felt it made more sense
to do that together with some more concrete news.
Of course I can wait for the stickers :D I was just a little
disappointed in the lack of updates; since funding was reached in
summer 2015 there have been only 2 updates on the indiegogo page.
Plus there seem to me more people disappointed there, if I read the
comments section:
https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/roundcube-next--2#/comments

Kindest regards, and looking forward for more updates on Roundcube
Next in the upcoming period,

https://roundcubenext.com/topic/24/time-for-an-apology

All backers should have received an invite for that and been told that this is
where communication will take place from now on.

Driving traffic to Indiegogo has not really been a priority for us given their
performance during the campaign, including outages and other problems, as well
as the costs associated (see https://blogs.fsfe.org/greve/?p=695 for more
information).

Of course I can wait for the stickers :D I was just a little
disappointed in the lack of updates;
All of us are disappointed, but things happen, including personal and health
problems which have affected key team members over the past weeks and months.

Fortunately Roundcube Next was started with ample time reserves before current
Roundcube would become obsolete. Plus we've continued to work on things that
will benefit Roundcube Next development as well -- including Kube and now
Alec's initiative to start working on a responsive skin.

So things are moving and there are ways to increase velocity. But that needs
some sensible planning. But the success of Kolab has created its own
challenges. We really need more hands on deck, for one. Managing that change,
while planning more than just Roundcube Next, is a good amount of work.

And protecting management time from interruptions is not always possible.

But the updates to the technical roadmap of Kolab - Roundcube Next included -
are in the works right now, and I would expect us to have visible results (so
not just plans) this year. But the actual planning of the roadmap I have to
leave to our CTO, so until he's done with that, I cannot say much more.

Best regards,
Georg
